Ofsted – LPW School is officially ‘Good’!

LPW School, which supports dozens of the city’s most vulnerable young people to re-engage them with education and support their future aspirations has achieved a rating of Good from Ofsted, the government’s education watchdog and regulator.

The school was inspected in July and in the report, published in September, Ofsted praised the school for "the wide range of opportunities it provides” and identified that “leaders and staff build strong and positive relationships with pupils [which helps them to] work hard and take pride in their learning”.

With alternative learning provision a source of ongoing debate and scrutiny it is a significant accolade when a school that works so hard to re-engage young people with formal education is recognised for its achievements and Ofsted has identified that LPW School “helps pupils to succeed”.

The report identifies that “behaviour is good at the school” and that “bullying never happens”, which is a reflection of pupils’ growth and personal development on joining the school as well as the unique approach adopted by the school to support all young people.

“This report is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our staff team and I am delighted for them, for our pupils and the wider school community. We have a fantastic team and are privileged to work with an amazing group of young people” says LPW School Head Teacher, Dan Carter.

“Our approach to learning is unique in the city and we pride ourselves on knowing every young person closely and tailoring their provision to their individual needs and circumstances. We recognise that the school experience is about so much more than the traditional classroom setting and it is extremely pleasing that our inspection team were able to see this first hand.”

LPW School is a small full-time alternative provision for pupils aged 14 – 16 based in the centre of Bristol that provides a fresh start for young people who are disengaged in mainstream education. It seeks to re-engage students and provide them with a small, nurturing but academically rigorous environment.

Pupils at LPW School gain a broad set of skills, studying a range of GCSE subjects, including English, maths and science as well as qualifications in a range of other areas and the opportunity to engage in vocational learning, work experience placements and community volunteering.
